The director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, Yll Buleshkaj, participated in the conference organized by the International Republican Institute on the topic “Sharpening the response of democracy to transnational kleptocracy”, in Rome, Italy, on September 18, 19 and 20, 2023.

Director Buleshkaj was part of the panel discussion where EU and national level efforts to advance transparency on beneficial ownership were discussed, including necessary policy reforms, improvement of existing databases and access, but also addressing the challenge to ensure privacy rights. Discussions were held under Chatham House rules.

Participants in this conference included representatives of anti-corruption institutions, European parliamentarians, representatives from the National Endowment for Democracy – NED, the International Republican Institute (IRI), Transparency International, Open Ownership, the Royal Institute of United Services for Defense Studies and Security (Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies-RUSI), expert, anti-corruption investigative journalist, representatives of specialized anti-corruption organizations and from academia.
