Asset declaration is only done online
Asset declaration is an essential tool in preventing corruption and conflict of interest and strengthening the integrity of public institutions.
As provided by the Law on Declaration, Origin and Control of Assets and Gifts, some categories of high officials including the President; Members of Parliament; Ministers and Deputy Ministers; Judges and Prosecutors; General Director of the Kosovo Police; Chairmen, Board Members and General Directors of public enterprises, Mayors and Deputy Mayors of Municipalities and public officials such as Doctors, Professors of public universities, public procurement officials, customs officers, tax inspectors, police investigators, are obliged to declare their assets.
Asset declaration, which may be done online, should include, among others, information on:
Whereas the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption:
- Checks whether asset declarations are complete and correct
- Performs full control of asset declarations and verifies data in Kosovo and abroad
- Sanctions officials who do not respect the established deadlines or do not fully declare assets
- Submits criminal reports to the Prosecutor’s Office
Officials who fail to properly declare their assets will be subject to the following fines:
If a senior official or public official submits the asset declaration with a delay of up to 15 days, he will pay a fine of up to 500 euros.
If a senior official or public official submits the declaration of assets late for more than 15 days or falsely declares his/her assets, the Agency will refer the case to the Prosecution and the Court may sentence the official to imprisonment for up to five years, while any unreported assets will be confiscated.
In addition, the Court will impose an additional penalty of prohibition from holding public office for 1 to 10 years after serving the prison sentence and, if applicable, the Court may prohibit the right to be elected to public office for 1 to 4 years.
